IoT solutions for Improving Power, Cogen and CHP Plant Performance and Operation
Tuesday, 26 June 2018
Internet of Things (IoT) solutions are allowing comprehensive real-time remote monitoring of thermal power, cogen, and combined heat & power (CHP) plants. Since the boiler is the heart of these plants, monitoring the boiler’s key plant performance indicators (KPI) has shown to be very effective in improving plant reliability, efficiency, emissions, operating and maintenance cost.

Tees Renewable Energy Plant (Modern Power Systems)
Wednesday, 29 November 2017
November 29, 2017 - Scale economics, fuel availability, and environmental impact have generally been the key factors determining utility-size power plant design choices. In the November edition of Modern Power System, Robert Giglio and Timo Jäntti, Sumitomo SHI FW discuss a good illustration of this axiom, the 299 MWe Tees Renewable Energy Plant (TeesREP), a combined heat and power facility being built on a brownfield site at Teesport near Middlesbrough, UK.

Using CFB for a new generation of fuel-flexible distributed CHP in Poland (Modern Power Systems)
Tuesday, 29 August 2017
August 29, 2017 - Fortum’s 145 MWt/75 MWe Zabrze CFB based plant, currently under construction, represents a major step forward for CHP in Poland, providing considerable fuel flexibility – with capabilities to burn RDF and various forms of biomass in addition to coal – combined with low emissions. Building on this, scaled down versions – in the 26 MWt/10.9 MWe size range – would be suitable for many municipalities and provide a possible trajectory for future “distributed” CHP development across Poland.

Large Scale Utility CFB Technology In World’s Largest Greenfield 100% Biomass Power Plant
Monday, 12 June 2017
June 12, 2017 - Major incentives on wind and solar power and decreasing consumption have nearly stalled thermal power investments in Europe. While fossil fuels are facing strong political pressures there seems to be a market for CO2 neutral thermal power and heat production. Today's market situation requires fuel flexible technologies, while maximum efficiency and economics of scale drive towards utility size solutions
