Sumitomo SHI FW is currently looking for the following position located in our Varkaus office:


in area of data analytics for IIoT

Candidates should be pursuing or have a Master Degree related to data analytics. Expertise would be preferably oriented towards utilizing AI, machine learning and/or data mining solutions in multiple IIoT-based industrial applications. Experience with predictive/prescriptive maintenance of industrial systems would be highly valued. Knowledge in automation, monitoring/measuring, data communication technologies, IoT architectures or general information technology would be also beneficial. Basic knowledge of boilers and power plants as well as previous working experience or higher education in the fields listed above are welcome, but not necessary. 

The work requires collaboration with other research engineers, process and design engineers, service engineers, as well as experts in sales and marketing and in technology. It implies primarily desk work and frequent collaboration with sub-suppliers, research and development partners and partners in data science and IoT solutions.

Knowledge of English language is mandatory. Knowledge of other languages is valued, but not necessary. Skills in common computer software (e.g. Office) is also mandatory. Knowledge and experience with software for data analytics and common programming languages is highly valued.

The work will focus on the rapidly evolving world of data analytics for IIoT, starting from solutions of process optimization, flexible operation, and prescriptive maintenance for the power sector. Advanced data science solutions will be evaluated, tested, and put into operation within the digital tools and services developed inside the company and with the support of key external partners. The short-to-mid-term target for the candidate shall be:

- participate in a R&D project related to plant digitalization

- contribute to the evaluation and implementation of data analytics solutions

- contribute to the networking and partnership with key external players

Long-term career opportunities include the possibility to become a primary R&D investigator and/or an expert in IoT within the company.

The primary work location is Varkaus. Alternative locations or remote working may be considered for highly experiences candidates, or for young candidates after few years.
