South African power producers require low cost, environmentally clean yet very reliable baseload power generation that can leverage South Africa's vast indigenous coal resources. Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) Boiler Technology has increased its world-wide presence principally due to its highly-desirable fuel flexibility feature combined with significantly reduced air emissions, particularly SOx, NOx and even CO2.

In many Asian countries, power producers are turning to low quality solid fuels as they face increasing pressure to generate low-cost power. They are finding that fuel-flexible circulating fluidized bed (CFB) technology can capture both the largest fuel cost savings and largest carbon emission reductions by co-firing biomass and other carbon neutral waste fuels.

In many markets, power producers are constantly faced with growing pressures to generate low cost power from solid fuels. As a result, power producers are increasingly looking to take maximum advantage of locally mined low-quality coals and lignite that are easily available at significantly lower prices. The resulting increase in utilization of low ranks coals

August 1, 2018 - Combustion of biomass poses a number of problems, particularly in utility scale boilers. The circulating fluidised bed has features that control ash agglomeration, fouling, and corrosion, and therefore make it particularly suitable for biomass applications, with inherent characteristics that favour low emissions. The technology also has considerable potential for scale up, and adoption of greatly improved steam conditions.
